FAMILY-SCHOOL PARTNER

This position is full-time (40hrs/week/52 weeks/yr) in New Castle County inclusive of medical benefits with a salary range from $28 K to $32K commensurate with education and experience

Overview

The Parent Information Center of Delaware (PIC) was awarded a multi-year grant from the US Department of Education to direct a Delaware State Parent Information Resource Center (DEPIRC). In partnership with the Rodel Foundation’s Delaware Parent Leadership Institute (DPLI) and the Delaware Department of Education Parents as Teachers program (PAT), the DEPIRC will provide information, education and technical assistance to families and schools to strengthen partnerships among parents and schools so as to improve student academic achievement and school success.

Specific Duties and Requirements:

Provide families of children in public schools and charter schools with the information, education and support they require to become informed and effective advocates for their children and partners with their children’s schools so as to improve their educational outcomes.

This includes:

  • Establishing ongoing communication among all project partners: PAT Parent Educators, DPLI Parent Leaders, school personnel and community agency representatives.
  • Assisting in the development of high quality, relevant and culturally sensitive training and information materials.
  •  Assisting in the development of effective culturally sensitive and result driven strategies for providing information to low-income, hard-to-reach and limited English proficient families
  • Presenting information and training to parents and school personnel about their respective responsibilities for parent involvement and school accountability under both Title I and the No Child Left Behind Acts
  • Encouraging and participating in the development of school-based Parent Resource Centers and school-linked parental engagement activities
  • Disseminating information about the project and promoting its services with families, schools, agencies and the community-at-large
  • Collecting and maintaining all data and evaluations as required by the project funding sources
  • Maintaining telephone and electronic contacts/activity logs/mailing lists of families and professionals
  • Representing the interests of and advocating for families on appropriate councils, committees and task forces
  • Working in collaboration with other PIC staff to meet organization’s collective goals where appropriate

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent background in course work, or life experience
  • Ability to relate well to others (families and professionals)
  • Familiarity and comfort in working with families of all backgrounds and cultures
  • Good teaching, training and presentation skills, especially as relating to adult learners
  • Technical expertise using computerized software (i.e. Word and Excel on MAC and /or PC platforms)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel within Delaware Counties

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of general education structure, regulations and processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills; including the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to meet timelines and give attention to details
  • Must be able to carry materials and small equipment

Strong Preference

  • Fluent in Spanish, both written and oral
