PIC opens registration for the innovative Family Leadership Academy!
(March 4, 2010) --
The Parent Information Center of Delaware is pleased to offer a new leadership training program designed to teach parents the skills and gain the knowledge to become effective advocates for better education practices in the Delaware School System. This free program, titled The Family Leadership Academy: Building Communities Engaged in Education, is open to all parents and guardians who have an interest in developing leadership skills and want to improve the services and supports in our schools.
The Family Leadership Academy (FLA) has three levels of involvement for parents. Become a Friend of the FLA by attending any two PIC workshops offered throughout the state. These workshops are topic focused and are a great way for parents to gain more information about important educational issues, as well as network with other parents and educational professionals. FLA Leaders are welcome at all workshops, but also attend the FLA Summit, being held on June 5th and 6th at the Del Tech Wilmington Campus. This two day program will focus on improving leadership skills in the areas of collaboration, group development, conflict resolution, and diversity. Lastly, those Leaders that would like to continue their training can become Advocates, and will be given leadership opportunities within the community in the form of committee and board membership.
Registration opens on March 1st and runs until May 3, 2010. PIC workshops are being presented throughout the months of March, April and May, and are focused on a wide range of topics some of which include: Advocacy 101, the IEP Clinic, Preparing Your Child for Kindergarten, Transitioning to the Post-School World, and Cell Phone Safety.
